Some Crazy Myths About Mens Grooming

Some Crazy Myths About Mens Grooming

There are a lot of crazy myths out there. For example that the Lochness Monster is real or that Britney Spears can actually sing. Similarly when it comes to men’s grooming, there are some myths we need to dispel in order for men to enjoy effective grooming. I must admit, a lot of these myths I used to believe myself! So let’s get started and look at some of the most common myths out there about men’s grooming.

Stress causes grey hair

The greater your stress, the greyer your hair get. That is what I always believed! Check out people in highly demanding positions, they quickly go grey…right? Actually grey hair is a genetics things and is not actually caused by stress. But be warned that stress can impact hair thinning if you stress a lot! So instead of stressing about something that you almost certainly won’t even keep in mind in a year’s time, relax and don’t lose your hair about it!

Shave against the grain

Shaving against the grain of hair gets an extremely close shave, but is it a good idea? Here’s why you mustn’t shave against the grain though – when you shave against the grain of hair it can cause pores and skin irritation, razor burns and ingrown hairs. So while you have a close shave, you will end up with nasty red bumps and ingrown hairs on your face.

Rather choose a quality shaving razor with a good blade for a close shave. Before you shave, prep the hair that is to be shaved with some warm water and perhaps some pre-shave olive oil to soften the hair. From there, use your shaving cream and shave with the grain!

Men and women’s skincare products are actually the same

Men and women’s skincare products are the same stuff manufactured in the same factory, just with different labels on them in order to make more money.

This isn’t true however. Men’s skin differs from women’s skin. Men’s skin differs from women’s skin, in that men have much thicker skin, is typically rougher in texture and also somewhat oilier. So men’s skincare products are specifically made with these variations at heart. So stop making use of your girlfriends or wife’s skincare products and get your own men’s skincare products.

You can use your body soap for your face too

Your skin is not the same all over your body. The skin on your face is a lot more sensitive than the skin on the rest of your body. Body soap will dry out your facial skin a lot if you use it regularly on your face. Soap products designed for your facial skin has different ingredients to regular soap, in order to be able to cleanse out your pours better rather than drying your skin out. So rather than using a normal bar of soap on your face, invest in a good face wash.

Your tongue is the origin of bad breath

This is a myth that is actually fact! Generally halitosis (which is the scientific word for bad breath) is due to what is on the back of your tongue. So when you are brushing your teeth, remember to give your tongue a good brushing too! Toothbrushes now have soft rubber on the back specifically for brushing your tongue.

Shaving your hair makes it grow back fuller and faster

Shaving your hair does not make it grow back faster and thicker. Thick hair is once again a genetic thing. You are either born with it or you are not.

Wrapping Up

I hope the above have helped you to dispel some myths that you were perhaps wondering about. I know I have certainly changed some of my grooming habits now that I am more aware of what is the truth and what is not. Happy grooming!
