Part 1- Organize your boxes

If you want your work to be done on time, then plan before 2-3 weeks since it is going to take few days. Start packing before moving will give you sufficient time to which you can organize things well. Your aim should be to complete your task before the day of moving. Plan about each room and complete it by a specific date. You will need materials like boxes, papers, bubble wraps, masking tape, plastic wrap, marker, packing peanuts, etc., so buy them before starting. Get materials from hardware stores, post offices or supply stores.

Purchase too many boxes because you cannot be sure about the exact number of boxes required. Area of a home can help in doing the correct estimation. For example- 700-900 feet – 15 small, 13 medium, three extra large and six large boxes are required. All the boxes should be sturdy and have no rips or tears or damage. Check them carefully before putting things into it. They should be strong and durable. Fill large boxes with light objects like toys, blankets, or clothes while keeping the heavy objects like tools or books into the small ones so that you can easily move them. If you put heavy objects into big ones, then you will need help to move them.

Part 2- Separate your items

You should separate every item so make a list of materials to be packed. Make a list for every room including bathrooms, hallways, and even porches. Make sections to place the item that should be packed together. For example- you can keep all books, notebooks, and novels in one box. This will help you in finding them easily when you again rearrange them. But don’t mix the items of different rooms even if they are similar for example books.

While making a list for every room, estimate the number of boxes required. Don’t keep the numbers limited; always keep extra boxes as you may need them. Follow the same idea of keeping similar things in one box. Keep wires, cables, and screws of hardware devices in a plastic bag and label them. Attach or place the bag to the box in which its parts belong so that later you can assemble them quickly. For example- put wire and mouse of the computer in a zipper bag and label it as computer cords. Label bag of screws or bolts as computer hardware and Stick the bag at the back of a monitor.

Pack an overnight bag also and keep things like towels, clothes, toiletries, etc. make a star on this box so that you get it quickly. Put this box after placing all other boxes in the truck. Wrap Items like furniture in padded blankets. You will get it from any hardware or package store. You can also place larger frames into these blankets as well. Pack pillows and clothing in trash bags. Another option for them is a suitcase.

Part 3- Pack non-breakable items

non-breakable

Pack Items in a paper which is not studied. Use tissue paper, packing paper, old clothes or newspaper to pack them. Use plastic wrap not the paper for liquids otherwise; it can leak and spoil other items. You can also use the zipped plastic bag to provide them extra security. You can also use packing peanuts to prevent items from breaking and jotting. Make a single layer and then put the items. If space is vacant, then fill it with paper balls. Packing peanuts are easily available in the post office, office supply store or hardware store.

While placing items remember to put lighter objects at the top.  For example- put the book at the bottom, and then place the kettle on top, place dishtowels at the sides of boxes to fill the vacant space. The weight of a box should not exceed 30 pounds. No space should be left inside boxes; either fills them with paper balls or packing peanuts or clothes. Once everything is packed, cover the box and use tape to seal the box. Apply two layers of tape so that it gets completely sealed.

Once the boxes are sealed, label them. Write what the box contains, the items inside it belongs to which room and other information as well. You can use both marker and sticker also. Write on both sides of boxes and while placing them in truck keep the side with a name in front so that while taking them out you know which box will go to which room. Also, the opening side should be up.

Part 4- Pack fragile objects

To keep fragile objects use a smaller box as it can hold them completely. If you keep them in big ones, then they will easily shift around while moving. Movers have special boxes for fragile items so that you can ask for them. It has separation of cardboards or frames that keep each item protected, and they do not collide with each other while shifting. If you don’t get them, use packing peanuts, bubble wrap or paper to cover them. Pack the frames, lamp shades and other sturdy objects in packing paper. Use bubble wrap for plates, glasses and other delicate objects. Keep crumbled paper inside of glass, vases, and mugs. Don’t use towels or clothes to cover them as this will not be able to keep them safe.

Don’t stuff the boxes with too many items. Don’t put the items in the stack, one over another as it can break the one at the bottom. If you need more boxes, then buy them but don’t try to work with whatever you got.

Since Packing should never be done in a hurry, if you follow these steps, you can complete it before date.
