The Deplorable state of Media in India

Yes, Media, the present day electronic media to be precise, is one of the finest pillars of democracy, it is very important to have a free and fair media working and keeping its vigil on the government and the country as a whole.

The corporate media tycoons in India have really set high standards for themselves and for the rest in information delivery, statastical analysis, discussions and the much loved devil’s advocate

It’s good to provide the nation with quick news and information but what good this bad news makes if it is reached 10 minutes early than the competetors when it is finally some bad and deplorable news, or what bad the news makes if it reaches 10 minutes late when the news is that 60 died !

They are the first to reach every accident place, long before the ambulances, police, army and even the NSG reach – be it a devastating quake or mindless terror strike. They know they are going to cover information on some bomb blasts and people dying. Yet they never carry at least a first – aid kit !!!!

Have we ever seen a journalist putting his mic away and helping a blood flooded victim ?

Isn’t that his/her duty ? Are we asking anything out of their reach or capability ? The victim at that moment needs some help and not his news to be known to all …. and worst of all , he doesn’t want an interview to be taken on HOW HE IS FEELING AFTER THE BOMB HAS EXPLODED !!

And after an awful incident, it starts making stories !! See this extremely sorrowful BREAKING NEWS at the time of Mumbai strikes by INDIA TV (I am very sad to have that channel named INDIA TV)

Media talks about Corporate social responsibility but where has Media Social Resposibility gone ???

Jago Grahak Jago is a media – based enlightening experiment and we should support it. Lets also start Jago Media Jago too – they too need some wake up calls ….

Take first aid kits, inform the nearest hospitals to rush some ambulances to the accident area, inform to intelligence agencies first and not to public if any crucial evidence is found (we already know how much media’s EFFORTS has made it easy for the terrorists to prolong the Mumbai firings), dont show horrible acts of violence rather show great acts of courage and bravery, DONT MAKE BREAKING NEWS OUT OF ANYTHING.

We would love to see a socially responsible and powerful Media…..
