EDTECH – The Future of Education

EDTECH – The Future of Education

With advancements in technology, every aspect of life has become technology based. Books are read on tablets, cars have shifted from mechanical to technology-based, Netflix has replaced cassettes; education isn’t far behind. With the introduction of Ed-tech, our gadgets seem to have a very vital role in the future of education.

What is ED-Tech?

Ed-tech is the practice of ethical use of technology and resources for learning and improving performance.  Education technology is a wide field that focuses mainly on improving learning in a systematic way. Richey defined educational technology as “the study and ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving performance by creating, using and managing appropriate technological processes and resources”. It is important to understand that Ed-tech does not necessarily mean usage of high-end physical technology only; it comprises of a blend of anything that improves classroom learning and combines it with online learning. Ed-tech is just a method of integrating technology into education in order to make it more interactive, diverse and interesting. Through Ed-tech, learning becomes dynamic. It is an important part of the education society today. Good Engineering Colleges in Bangalore, Kerala, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai have been using it to promote an intuitive way of learning among students.

What does it comprise of?

Ed-tech encompasses e-learning, instructional technology, information and communication technology (ICT) in education, learning technology, multimedia learning, technology-enhanced learning (TEL), computer-based instruction (CBI), computer managed instruction, computer-based training (CBT), flexible learning, internet-based training (IBT), web-based training (WBT), digital educational collaboration, cyber-learning and multi-modal instruction, computer-aided instruction (CAI), online education, distributed learning, computer-mediated communication, virtual education, personal learning environments, networked learning, virtual learning environments (VLE) (which are also called learning platforms), m-learning, ubiquitous learning and digital education. Ed-tech involves the use of various kinds of media like audio, video, animation, text, images etc.

Apart from making a normal four-walled classroom more interactive, e-learning is also one of the major positives of ed-tech. E-learning is a brilliant way of learning. It has made access to education simpler. It narrows down the travel time required to travel to places. It has benefitted many who cannot physically reach the required destination to learn and access different facets of education. It allows the combining of online education with work or getting a normal degree. It also accessible throughout the day, i.e. 24/7, hence one can learn whenever they are interested. It’s also a very cost-effective way of learning. Another prime benefit of e-learning is that it makes sure you have updated information. Also, for those with social anxiety E-learning seems like a life saver doesn’t it? The environment is certainly less intimidating than a classroom. It also helps one to polish his technical skills to an extent. E-learning has made learning simpler, easier and more effective. You could be studying from home for your SBI PO 2019.

Benefits:

Ed-tech brings about one on one training to an extent. This helps an individual spend more time on topics he wishes to focus on and skim through the others. With Ed-tech, learning has become accessible to a wider audience and through larger distances. In a computer-based environment, students can independently solve problems. Technology is not the end goal of Ed-tech, it’s merely a means of grasping. Statics show that teachers across the world are implementing technology into teaching. Ed-Tech promotes paperless interactive and modern learning. Although already implemented, there has been a huge increase in the adoption of Ed-tech mainly because of the many benefits it provides.

Technology has given education extra wings. This dynamic way of learning has improved the learning process and contributed to the all-round development of education.
