Have Zoom Calls Changed the Way You Look at Yourself?

Have Zoom Calls Changed the Way You Look at Yourself?

For many of us this year we’ve had to get used to seeing ourselves on the screen whenever we want to chat with our loved ones or attend a work meeting. It’s the virtual equivalent of getting a haircut and having to constantly look at yourself in the mirror. How have you been fairing with all this extra face time?

Make Change

Perhaps when you’ve been forced to look at your face for longer than usual, you’ve spent the majority of time crictising it – finding and focusing on every flaw. Sometimes the smallest thing can have a crushing impact. An option you could consider is having work done on your face, but there are lots of questions you should ask yourself before going ahead with it. You can also get expert advice to help you with your decision.

You’re Not Alone

Self-esteem can impact everyone differently. It is not a straight-forward journey. There won’t come a time where you magically wake up and love everything about yourself. You’ll have good and bad days, and you’re not alone in this. Did you know that 91% of people admitted they look at themselves more than others on video chats? For those moments you catch yourself wincing at a spot, or a double chin, remind yourself that it’s likely a lot of people you’re chatting with are also worrying about what they look like.

Get Outside

When you feel like it’s all getting a bit much and you’re getting stuck inside your own head, it’s time for you to go outside. If possible you should try to get into nature. Of course, remember to keep a safe distance from other people while you’re out there. It gives you a chance to take a break from scrutinising your insecurities. If you’re dubious about the difference going on a walk can make, you need to try it for yourself.

Self-Care

Who can forget about our good friend self-care? It is not just a buzzword you read on social media and an excuse to treat yourself. It’s a process of you actively taking steps to make your mind and body feel better. Each person has their own process of what works best for them. There are lots of things you can do to help yourself.

This year has been hard on everyone, so please try and remember to be kind to yourself. What are some ways you like to give yourself a confidence boost?
