Life stages of a Cancer Patient from Diagnosis to the Cure

Life is unpredictable, and what is on the other side of the road, no one knows. Cancer is a  disease that is one of the deadliest in the world, and anyone can be a victim of this life-threatening disease. While cancer kills one in eight people every day, globally, people ignore the fact that it can happen to anyone. It is a myth that only people who consume tobacco or tobacco-induced products suffer from cancer. This article shares a real-life story of a young girl, whose life changed in a few months.

It is the story of Sakshi, grey-eyed, young and successful fashion designer. She was happy and enjoying her life to the bits. At the age of 25, she achieved a lot in her career than anyone else in her field. She was in high demand. Thanks to her back to back successful ramp shows. She lived in the moment and was a diet freak. She did not like to eat or drink from the street side. She would always carry fruits and fresh fruit juice to her work. She led a busy life in Mumbai while her family lived in Nasik.

Sakshi never dreamed of regretting her decision of not getting a cancer policy in her life. Instead, she bought general life insurance as most people do. Her life took a turn from the day she felt a lump in her right breast and armpit. As it was painless, she ignored and continued working at the same pace. She was on the path of getting her new assignment, but life had different plans for her. She could notice a drastic change in the way the lump started to appear and feel. She rushed to a doctor who recommended her to me. After a few clinical exams, Sakshi had to undergo mammogram, ultrasound, MRI, Biopsy, and Lab Test. It was shocking to know it was breast cancer. Sakshi could not believe that cancer would attack her. It was a nightmare.

It was not the initial stage, and therefore, soon after the diagnosis, she had to be prepared for chemotherapy. It was stage three for her. Along with chemotherapy, she had to sit for hormonal and targeted therapy. After regular visits to me, Sakshi knew what she had to be cautious with and what not. She changed her lifestyle. She could not go to work. Initially, she worked from home as long as she could. Later, she had to give up as most of her time went travelling and visiting her therapist and that is me. She had to spend a lot during the treatment. Her family contributed too. Her father is a wealthy person and could afford his daughter’s treatment. The good news is she healed in two years. In that duration, she had no source of income. Her parents helped. She spent around Rs 500000 for the treatment. Her travel and doctor visits cost around Rs 50000.

There is another miscellaneous expenditure too, the total of which is approximately Rs 25,000. Although her parents supported her, there was a way they could save that money. Had they opted for the best cancer insurance policy in India, today, the money they spent would be intact.

Sakshi is back to work with her positive attitude on life. She has started to share her experience with her friends and colleagues about how a cancer cover can save money and stress. She wants everyone to buy one for a hassle-free journey from diagnosis to cure.

Lesson from Sakshi

Cancer does not come knocking at the door. It does not come asking if you are a smoker, if you are an alcoholic, if you are fat and more. Cancer is a disease that even attacks children. With the increasing pollution and chemicals in products you eat, cancer is on the rise. It is your responsibility to eat organic and stay healthy. Don’t forget to exercise regularly so that you sweat out your body and prevent your body from producing cancer cells.

There are many different types of cancer cell treatments available, and the best treatment for a particular patient will depend on the type of cancer, the stage of the cancer, and the patient’s overall health. One should never underestimate one’s health. It is advisable that everyone has a health insurance plan especially cancer policy because this is an illness that burns your money and kills one if the diagnosis is late.
