After doing quite some research, I’ve discovered that one of the major elements of a successful company is their workplace condition.

One of my respondents narrated to me how 80% of his employees suffered from diabetes, back pain and/or obesity. After consulting a health therapist, the consultant attributed the cause to the low desk and chair in the company’s workspace and prescribed an adjustable desk to promote more times of standing while working.

As humans we are naturally structured to stand, sitting is an anomaly and should not be done for too long. The effects are both short-term and long-term.

  • There’s little physical activity done when you sit down, therefore you use up less calorie which then accumulates and leads to obesity.
  • In the same way, because of the reduced physical activity, your blood sugar isn’t used up as well. This could lead to diabetes.
  • Asides these, when you sit too long, you put quite a lot of pressure on the bone structure at your back which could cause chronic back pain – your spine, upper back, and even lower back regions.
  • Sitting too long also increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases. A study showed that a bus conductor had a lesser probability of having heart-related disease compared to their bus-driver colleague.
  • Finally, this might sound hard, but it’s the bitter truth. Sitting too long would shorten your lifespan and even cause some mental stress on you.

Ditching that low desk at your workstation or workplace is the best decision you could make.

Since you have been familiar with sitting all day at the desk, there is a need to slowly adapt to the new use of the adjustable desk.
