How to Protect Products During Shipping

As any company will tell you, it is important to ensure that the quality of any products that you manufacture is of the highest standard. With all the time and effort you have likely put into manufacturing your goods to the highest quality, it is vital that they reach your customers in the same state that they left your factory in. This is why packaging is such a vital consideration for any manufacturer, no matter how big or small.

Improperly packaging any products exposes it to the risk of being damaged in transit. Products that arrive in poor condition will lead to lower customer satisfaction and of course decreased profits as a result of sending replacement products out. Unfortunately, if your customer was in a hurry for the product this may not always appease them and may lead to a feeling of negativity towards your company. In today’s fast-paced world, which relies heavily on technology and social media, this negativity may result in a poor review online or a negative post on social media. Neither of these are things that will reflect well for the company with anyone who is considering using you for the first time.

Ensuring that you use the most appropriate packaging for any items that you ship will offer you the best protection against any damage occurring. Whilst it is true that this packaging may cost you a little more, it is well worth it if it means greater customer satisfaction and less need to send out replacement products.

Packing materials

Some products need special packing materials. Air cushions on their own may simply not be enough to protect your products from those things that could cause them damage such as moisture vapor. Using the wrong packaging may leave your products vulnerable to the damage that tiny droplets of moisture could create. Barrier bags have been specifically designed to protect products during transit from moisture vapor, and they can protect your products from moisture and corrosion. They are very strong and durable, easy to seal shut and come in a variety of sizes so that you can use them for a wide variety of different products to ensure that they are protected during shipping.

Choose your box carefully

While this does seem rather obvious, the key to packing something properly is to choose the right container to pack it in Corrugated cardboard boxes are designed to be stronger and therefore are the much more durable and appropriate option for your products. Of course, even the best box will be of little use to you when it comes to protecting your products if it is compromised during shipping due to being badly packed.

It is a good idea to discuss your requirements with a company that manufactures packaging, they will be able to help you choose the right fluting and grade for whatever it is you are shipping.

Pack properly

Before you pack your product, it is important to consider what features it may have that you need to protect during shipping. Is it fragile? Does it have any sharp corners? Does the product have lots of odd angles that might need plenty of cushioning that will help prevent damage during shipping?

Proper packing should allow for your products filling the box without too much excess air-space where possible. However, you should allow some space for cushioning where necessary. It is important to ensure that the box you use is not too small either.

With all this considered, you should now be able to come up with a good plan to make sure your carefully made products arrive at their destination in perfect condition.
