Tips to Create Your Perfect Kitchen

Most people have an idea what their dream kitchen would look like.  The size, the style and the appliances.  Some people know, right down to the small details what they’d have.  But this often costs money that we simply don’t have and that’s why our ideal kitchen is still a dream.

Nevertheless, many of us still plan to get a new kitchen installed in the next few years.  So, why not plan your ideas out now, so you know what you’re saving for?

Open plan or traditional kitchen?

One of the first questions you might be asking yourself, is whether to go for a modern open plan kitchen.  This is a great family-friendly option for many of us, with the kitchen area open to the other living spaces.  However, for some of us, a traditional kitchen is more useful.  Being able to shut the door on cooking smells and post-dinner mess, can be appealing.

If you’re thinking of an open plan kitchen, there may be structural changes to consider.  Will you be taking out walls, adding extensions or installing roof lanterns for example?

Modern gloss or traditional wood?

The style of your kitchen units is going to be a big decision.  And one you need to be happy with for some years.  So, do you go for a modern glossy kitchen which will wow your friends and neighbors? Or do you go for a traditional country-style kitchen?

A big factor is going to be the type of house you currently live in.  You don’t want the kitchen to look out of place.  You should also consider how fashionable the style is going to be in just a few years.  And durability may be another big consideration.

DIY or professional installation?

Another question that can be hard to answer but is worth considering right away, is who is going to fit the kitchen.  Your skill level and budget may answer this question for you.  But also consider how long it will take to fit and the amount of disruption you can cope with.

There are certain jobs you should always have done by an expert, such as gas cooker installation, adding electrical points and any structural changes you make to your kitchen.  This of course, increases costs.  So, make sure you know what you need to budget for.
