Analyzing the Role of Ethnicity in Defining an Individual’s Ability to Earn

The 21st century has thought us many new things, but some of them are not for good. We can name many examples of those, but among the worst of them is the nationality discrimination, which is also called the ethnicity problem. That is a situation in which a person is discriminated for being from a certain country or a region. The situation with this problem is pretty close to the one which was discussed by the feminists, as it also features the talks about the wage gap and how it affects certain groups of people. We are going to take a look at the situation where a person might not be given the amount of money they are worth, just because of them being from a country where workers get less for that. For example, some programmers from Asia are given lower salaries in the USA for the jobs that the Americans are paid much more for. And that has been a normal thing in the society of the last century, but right now, with the equal rights movements, minorities are trying to get rid of the pay gap that was created by the mean bosses in the past.

What we can also see is the fact that workers from the other countries are pretty often working much more than the ones from the home country. And in some rare cases this combines with the situation where a person from abroad is also getting paid less. Yes, that means that the abroad workers do much more work than the locals while they still get paid less. That is a problem which has been addressed by many of the right fighters, but it is still relevant in the current time.

That problem is pretty popular to discuss at schools and debate clubs. However, even though the topic is being addressed a lot, it is still not solved as the real decisions are pretty difficult to implement at the workplaces, because of the companies not wanting to lose their money. Decisions are pretty simple, but they are just ignored by bosses. And that is where we can start the example of people moving abroad for the better salary. For example, many people from the Eastern Europe choose to get a job in the Western countries instead of getting paid minimal wages at home. That is a true story for the mathematics who are getting paid the lowest possible wages at home, while abroad they are able to make some good money, which allows them not to think about the fact that they make less money than their local colleagues. The same things are about the programmers, as at the Eastern Europe they are not paid that much money for a much bigger amount of work. When they move abroad they start getting much more money for the jobs where they do not make as much work as they used to do at home. That is also a situation in which workers tend to close their eyes on the fact that their local colleagues are making much more money for the same stuff.

However, coming back to the topic of the simple workers we can say that they require some help from the outside world. And the movements are actually working on this problem a lot, which gives the simple workers a chance to fight for their rights to get paid as much as the people from the local countries. And the changes are starting to appear right now, with many factories starting to pay the equal money wage, not depending on where the worker is from or what ethnicity they have. We still have the problem of the discrimination at the workplace, but that is a totally different story, which needs to be discussed as a separate topic.

To sum the things up, we will say that the wage gap between locals and foreigners is an existing thing, and unlike the feminists’ arguments, there are many examples of real life when workers were getting less for being from the foreign countries. However, we can say that the fight still ongoing and the ex-minorities are now getting more and more rights to get as much money for the same job as the locals are getting.
