Farhaj Sarwar And The Successful Launch Of #Lovecoats Project To Empower Refugee Girls

Farhaj Sarwar And The Successful Launch Of #Lovecoats Project To Empower Refugee Girls

It was in 2017 when a massive change happened for The Tiger girls and it was all because of one man. Farhaj Sarwar was at the epicenter of this entire project and he spearheaded the endeavor in the direction it was supposed to move into.

Sarwar says, “It was a great sense of achievement for the entire undertaking. Yes. NRS International was never going to be the same again.”

The successful launch of the #LoveCoats project was only the beginning. Back in 2017, they worked with several award-winning social artists and they are proud of what they were able to achieve that year. TIGER Girls is an abbreviation of These Inspiring Girls Enjoy Reading and it was a one-of-a-kind event when they were invited to the Za’atari Refugee camp. The idea was to make a difference in the lives of refugee girls of practically all ages.

“We have always taken pride in whatever little we are able to do for humanity. This time around, we were able to make a big difference by donating 1000 meters of UNHCR-approved durable thermal blankets and blanketing material. Professor Storey has been very helpful in making this happen for all the 1,250 adolescent girls involved who want to change their lives through fashion, design, and technical skills. As the winter of 2022 approaches, we cannot help but recall the events that encouraged us to help these refugees in Syria.

The project which is lovingly called #LoveCoats has a very definitive and inspiring mission which is to empower girls and help them find their true calling. The aim of the entire project is to give them a new reason to live and an opportunity to work to their maximum potential so that they can turn their ambition into reality.

Fashion – A Means To A Dignified Living For The Lost Girls Who Needed Direction

NRS International understood how fashion and a few technical skills could turn the lives of these girls for the better. The 1000 meters of thermal blanketing material that they donated already met the UN Refugee Agency specifications and all other requirements for durability and protection against extreme cold temperatures. Also, NRS Relief was able to sell 3.9 million pieces of these same blankets to numerous leading aid agencies internationally in the same year. The concept of #LoveCoats was created in association with the TIGER girls. It was the Annual Dubai International Humanitarian Aid and Development Conference and Exhibition during which this concept came to life.

But NRS International got inspired by this one effort of their own company and decided to make a difference in the lives of millions of people back home as well.

Farhaj told the local reporter, “When I first met Professor Storey, it was at the DIHAD and I was so inspired that I decided that this endeavor needs to cross international borders and benefit the people of not just one country but every country in need. The power of fashion is such that it can empower generations of women across continents. It also has the ability to address some of the most devastating issues that we face today including hunger, poverty, the right to a dignified living, education, hygiene, sanitation, and many more. This refugee settlement was going to be just the first step and we had already made arrangements for similar charities and endeavors to take place back in our home country which is Pakistan.”

Sarwar, along with his other foundations such as Minha Edible Oils and BSF which is the Bilqees Sarwar Foundation has pioneered several humanitarian projects and charity events all across his home country and several regions of Africa and the Middle East as well.

The leaders at NRS International and the Bilqees Sarwar Foundation are very much attuned to the needs of people facing the refugee crisis all over the world. This is because the family had also faced several similar circumstances back in the day. They are well aware of the fact that by the end of 2016, more than 66 million individuals were forced out of their homes and subjected to a life of persecution, violence, and conflict all over the world. NRS International understood the need for protecting this population worldwide and ensuring that the right resources are employed to enhance the quality of their lives.

Why Stress On The Collaboration Involving Tiger Girls?

It was very simple. For us, this collaboration with These Inspiring Girls EnjoyR reading was a revolution of shorts. They participated in the Za’atari Refugee Camp located in Jordan to make the #LoveCoats project was hugely successful. The idea was not only to provide them with livable tents and other means to support their families but also to teach them a few technical skills that will allow them to make durable clothing and protect their families from the bitter winter that was almost upon them.

“The NRS Foundation has always believed that the only way to help the world survive and thrive is to make women stronger and stand on their feet. The ambition of our daughters, sisters, and mothers is as important as that of our own. We made sure that this project empowered young women so that they become self-sufficient and an inspiration for generations to come.”

Said Sarwar.

“It was only after the success of this endeavor that the world was able to see how one blanket can be transformed into something so fashionable and useful. If it hadn’t been for NRS International, I would have been deprived of such a thrilling, satisfying, and highly insightful experience all my life. I am personally very grateful to NRS International and the Sarwar family.”

Storey was quoted as saying.

This story has truly inspired a lot of people and across generations. People back in Pakistan are not just happy but proud of the man of the moment , Farhaj Sarwar who is making such a humongous difference in the lives of people in need. The entire #LoveCoats project garnered a lot of international media attention and for all the right reasons. An effort such as this is bound to be a success since its day of conception. Wouldn’t you agree?
