Movies and Series That Helped Change the Way We Think

Movies, series, and entertainment in general has the ability to influence the way we view the world and change the way we think. Now, with the coronavirus pandemic, we have a lot of extra time to spend indoors.

What better way to take advantage of this extra time than by curling up on the sofa and watching some thought-provoking entertainment. Isolating during the pandemic can be tough on the mind, so make sure you are productive, entertained, and supported by family or friends. If you are in need of some inspiring content, here are a few series and movies that helped change the way we think.

Planet Earth II

Planet Earth has been around since 2006, however, the latest edition released a decade later captivated the hearts and minds of a global audience. Narrated by Sir David Attenborough, Planet Earth II provided incredible insights into the experiences and behaviors of animals across the globe.

Its cinematographic portrayal of these animals, paired with a thrilling soundtrack, placed a great emphasis on the importance of keeping our planet safe. Its release was also timely as Donald Trump began promulgating lies and claiming climate change is a hoax. Thankfully this docuseries opened many viewer’s eyes to a whole new perspective on the matter.

 One Piece

Thought-provoking entertainment spans across all genres and countries, including anime. Anime is a Japanese, hand-drawn, computer animation whose origins can be traced to the world of Manga. The beauty of this genre is that it can tell a story about anything, allowing you to find the beauty in even the most mundane of stories.

One Piece follows the adventurous life of a boy who is traveling through the world to become the next King of Pirates. With heartwarming characters, action-packed scenes, and a gripping soundtrack, this series is full of thought-provoking quotes.

 500 Days of Summer

If you are in the mood for something light-hearted with a dark and realistic undertone, this is the perfect movie for you. At first glance, the romantic comedy seems to depict the picture-perfect relationship seen in every Hollywood movie. In other words, boy meets girl, they fall madly in love, and live happily ever after.

However, the plot twist in this movie shows that when you are in love, you choose to forget the sourest features of a relationship. In his ultimate reflections, the protagonist realizes that as we become so engrossed in the other person, we lose ourselves and may not realize that, in fact, they aren’t ‘the one’.

Fight Club

Fight Club is another classic movie that hopes to teach its audience important life lessons. The cult classic reflects on modern values like consumerism, materialism, and capitalism. It questions the true meaning of life and argues that we use these values as empty substitutes for happiness and validation.

Brad Pitt, Edward Norton, and Helena Bonham Carter all give stellar performances in this cinematic experience. This movie is definitely not one for the faint-hearted, but it will undoubtedly leave a deep impression.
