Types of Pool Lights and What to Choose

Different categories of in-ground swimming pools exist. They include vinyl, fiberglass, and concrete in-ground pools. Each one of them has its benefits and disadvantages.

For example, concrete in-ground pools offer you more options when it comes to finishing than other in-ground pools do. However, one thing cuts across these different categories of in-ground pools namely the need for lighting them.

In other words, lighting is essential to the design of a pool regardless of the material used to make the pool. One of the essential benefits of lighting your pool is enhancing its appearance. Another one is increasing the level of safety in your pool by making it easier for you to see objects in it.

Here are different types of pool lights and what to choose.

1. LED Pool Lights

Unlike incandescent bulbs, LED lights have no filament. Instead, an electric current move through a microchip in the LED bulb illuminating the pool. Interestingly, these lights have an inbuilt heat sink mechanism that keeps them cool. LED lights offer you many advantages. For example, you can light your pool based on your homes color scheme because LED lights exist in multiple colors. Having multiple color choices is also ideal for people who hold pool parties regularly because different parties can have different pool colors. Interestingly, LED lights are better than halogen lights are even though both of them are affordable and easy to install. In his case, LED lights are better because they last for a longer period than halogen lights do.

2. Halogen Pool Lights

Halogen Pool Lights

Halogen lights are fundamentally different from LED lights. For example, a halogen light has a tungsten filament. It has halogen gas as well. The filament thins as it lights emitting particles that darken the bulb covering it. The halogen gas slows down the thinning of this filament and the darkening of the bulb. Halogen bulbs are smaller and more efficient than incandescent bulbs are. They are cheaper than LED lights are and some of them can last for a longer period than LED lights can. However, halogen lights use up more power than LED lights do. Halogen lights can offer you less than ten colors while LED lights can offer you an excess of 20 different colors. Therefore, LED lights will make your pool more vibrant than halogen lights will.

3.    Fiber Optic Pool Lighting

Fiber Optic Pool Lighting

Optical fibers transmit data from one location to another. This data moves through the fiber by bouncing off its wall. Recently, scientists have developed optical fibers that illuminate the surrounding areas as light travels through them. These optical fibers would look like neon light tubes to many people. The versatility of this kind of pool lighting is unquestionable. For example, pool owners can install underground and it will change colors instantaneously, continuously, and automatically. This versatility means that fiber optic pool lighting is better for lighting pools than LED lighting is. They are especially ideal for lighting waterfalls, grottos, and fountains. However, they do not last for as long as LED lights do. They experience more electrical problems than LED pool lights do.
